Mark Werbner, Co-Counsel Honored by The American Lawyer for Arab Bank Verdict Win
The American Lawyer magazine is honoring Mark Werbner of Sayles Werbner and other members of the trial team that successfully represented nearly 300 U.S. victims of international terrorism in the landmark terrorism-financing verdict recently handed down against Jordan-based Arab Bank.
The national legal publication named Werbner and attorneys from New Jersey’s Osen LLC, South Carolina’s Motley Rice and Arkansas’ Turner & Associates as “Litigators of the Week” based on their work in the historic verdict issued in Brooklyn federal court on Sept. 22, 2014. The article notes Werbner’s skills during the month-long trial and his “mastery of the case.” The lawsuit, Linde v. Arab Bank, originally was filed in 2004 under the U.S. Anti-Terrorism Act based on claims that Jordan’s largest financial institution knowingly gave material support to terrorists who conducted a series of bombings in Israel, the West Bank and Gaza from 2001 to 2004. The case represented the first civil trial in the nation against a foreign bank for its role in terrorism financing.
