Working with a team of attorneys from Sayles Werbner and counsel from the Philadelphia law firm of Woodcock Washburn, Mr. Sayles helped Johnson & Johnson’s Centocor unit protect a valuable patent used to produce a drug that treats rheumatoid arthritis and other autoimmune diseases. Following Mr. Sayles’ stirring closing argument, a jury sitting in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas awarded his client $1.67 billion. The award represents the country’s largest verdict of 2009 and stands as the largest patent verdict in U.S. history. |
